Periodontal - Curettage Treatment
In cases where periodontal disease is advanced, routine cleaning procedures are not enough to stop gingivitis.
In advanced gum disease, gingival overgrowth or destruction of the bone surrounding the teeth results in deep gingival pockets that are difficult to clean. The aim of advanced periodontal treatment is to clean these pockets and either eliminate them or make them healthy.
The deep root surface and gingival pocket cleaning applied at this stage is called “curettage”. Curettage is performed with the help of special scrapers, ultrasonic cleaners and soft tissue laser.
Curettage, which is usually performed under anesthesia, may be accompanied by minor surgical procedures depending on the extent of the disease.
After curettage, the tooth root surface and gingiva are cleaned and the tissues around the tooth regain their health. Advanced periodontal surgery may be considered in areas that do not respond to treatment.
People with advanced periodontal disease should have regular check-ups and, if necessary, maintenance cleanings at regular intervals in addition to daily care.
